Civic Science 100% Guaranteed Privacy Policy

Civic Science will never share your name, your email address, your phone number, or any other personal identifying information with anyone...ever.*

SPAM, Banner Ads, and Pop-Ups

Don't even worry about it. It's never going to happen here. We will never contact you with advertisements or solicitations from CivicScience or any other companies.

Other Things Our Lawyers Want Us to Tell You

Civic Science has created this Privacy Policy for our registered members to outline the policies and procedures related to the user registration, voting, and results tabulation that is performed either on our web site at www.civicscience.com (the "Site") or through our Ballot Box and Hot Buttons Polling Tools (the "Widgets").

Data and Information Collection and Use

By using our Site or our Widgets you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in the Privacy Policy now and as amended by Civic Science. The registration you complete and the answers you provide to polls on this site are collected for only two purposes: First, we will help you understand how your views compare to those of your peers and neighbors. And secondly, we will count your vote among others like you to ensure that your voice is heard by your elected leaders, political candidates, the media, and the broader population.

Registration Information

In order to access poll results as well as certain features of the Widgets or the Site, you may be asked to complete a simple registration process where you will be asked for a user name and password, a valid email address, your name, your zip code plus-4, your gender, and your birth date.

User Name and Password

During the sign-up process, you may be asked to create a unique user name and password. These will represent your personalized keys to the Civic Science community. They will ensure that you and only can access your profile, your voting record, and other personal information. Once you complete your initial sign-up, your user name and password are all you will ever need to respond to polls, view results, or access the Site.

Civic Science strongly recommends that you do NOT use your real name for your user name. Your anonymity will ensure that you can share your opinions candidly and honestly, without fear of peer pressure or criticism. You should feel absolutely comfortable that your privacy and security are guaranteed, so that you can be yourself.

Your Email Address

During the sign-up process, you are asked to provide a working email address. This information is used only to determine that you are in fact a real person and not some computer program trying to compromise our voting data. Once you've complete your registration, we will send you one email to confirm your membership in our community. After that initial e-mail, you will only receive emails: A) For new polls or other company updates, B) If you email our Help Desk for questions about a poll or other matter or, C) If you violate the Code of Conduct in our community and we alert you that your membership has been revoked. You can opt out of "A" emails at any time by emailing simon@civicscience.com.

Your Mailing Address

During the registration process, you may be asked to provide your "Zip Code plus-4" so that we can determine your federal, state, and local voting district. This information will allow us to tailor content for you related to your community and your elected officials. Unfortunately, approximately one person in ten thousand actually knows their 4-digit zip code extension. You are given the option, therefore, of providing your home address and we'll use some fancy technology to compute your 4-digit postal code. Once that computation is done, however, your address is erased from our memories forever. You have our word.

*Your Mobile Phone Number

In the not-too-distant future, Civic Science will unveil a new feature allowing members of our community to receive and respond to polls on their mobile phone or other handheld wireless device. At such time as that capability is introduced, the registration process will include a field for you to provide your mobile phone number and request to receive polls by text message. Your number will only be used for sending you polls and will never be shared with anyone outside of our company.

Voting Information and History

Civic Science is a for-profit corporation that earns money by administering polls sponsored by outside parties and by providing data and analysis services to researchers and other organizations. Neither Civic Science nor any organization that utilizes our polling software will ever monitor how you, as an individual, voted on a particular issue. In other words, nobody can ever pay us to find out "How Joan Smith voted." Instead, we can provide valuable information regarding, for example, "How women between the ages of 25 and 35 from Central Indiana voted" on a particular issue. While Joan Smith's vote is certainly being counted and valued among her peers, Joan's personal identity will always remain confidential.

Civic Science retains data related to your voting record and other on-site behavior indefinitely. Personal account information, however, is retained for no more than 7 years.

(*In the highly unlikely event of formal criminal investigations, the only exception to the policies outlined above would occur if Civic Science may be required by law enforcement entities to share certain data pertaining to our site and our members).
